Engineers Joint Contract Documents Committee® (EJCDC) Releases the 2026 EJCDC Progressive Design-Build Family of Documents
Collection of significantly updated agreements offering a flexible contracting method for engineered construction projects that allows the Owner and Design-Builder to maximize the benefits of Design-Build.
ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 24, 2026 --- The Engineers Joint Contract Documents Committee (EJCDC) today released the 2026 edition of the EJCDC Progressive Design-Build Family of Documents.
Progressive Design-Build is a flexible contracting method for engineered construction projects that allows the Owner and Design-Builder to maximize the benefits of Design-Build, by selecting the Design-Builder primarily based on qualifications, rather than price, and then the Owner and Design-Builder work together toward the final design & final price, allowing the pricing to be deferred to when the design is well developed. These documents were prepared with the intent of providing fair, unbiased, practical, and balanced provisions for all parties.
In 2016, EJCDC issued its first series of Progressive Design-Build documents, and this updated edition (2026) released today consists of 23 integrated documents; (7 Progressive D-B only & 16 Traditional D-B that support both types of Design-Build). The 2026 Progressive Design/Build Series includes:
- New fundamental contract documents such as the Standard General Conditions (D-701) and Supplementary Conditions (D-801) for Progressive D-B.
- Several new “How To” documents for the Progressive D-B process (selection procedures (D-053), advertising, RFQ (D-252), insurance, etc.)
- An expanded and more detailed version of the primary Agreement between Owner & Design-Builder (D-512)
- An added Work Authorization form (D-545) for use primarily during the Design Phase of Progressive D-B
- Administrative forms, such as a certificate of substantial completion, notice of acceptability of work, (both new for 2026), a change order, a work change directive, and a payment application.
Updates were made to all 23 documents released today to reflect current business practices, including:
- Expansion of “Notes to Users” from the 2016 documents.
- All documents have been reformatted to present a more uniform look.
- Coordination & comparison to the other EJCDC families of documents for clarity and continuity.
All 23 documents are now available for purchase in the online store at EJCDC.org. They can be purchased individually or as a collection (D-991). Members of EJCDC®’s sponsoring organizations (the American Council of Engineering Companies, the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the American Society of Civil Engineers – Construction Institute) can also purchase this document directly from those organizations starting today at a 35% discount.
Over the last 50 years, Engineers Joint Contract Documents Committee (EJCDC®) has developed and updated fair and objective standard documents specifically written for infrastructure projects in the United States. Each EJCDC® Contract Document is systematically prepared, reviewed and analyzed by committees of experienced engineering design and construction professionals, owners, contractors, professional liability and risk management experts, with the participation and advice of legal counsel.
