EJCDC® Announces the Retirement and Discontinuation of the EJCDC® E‑568, Agreement Between Engineer and Architect for Professional Services, 2015 Edition.

For several years, EJCDC has offered an agreement between the Engineer (as prime) and Architect (as subconsultant).  The most current recent update of this document is EJCDC® E‑568, Agreement Between Engineer and Architect for Professional Services, 2015 Edition.

In 2022 after careful consideration, EJCDC decided not to include an updated edition of the E-568 Engineer and Architect Subconsultant agreement as part of its latest Engineering series offerings.  We will also be discontinuing sales of prior editions of E-568.

A comparison of EJCDC® E‑570, Agreement Between Engineer and Subconsultant for Professional Services, our comprehensive professional services Subconsultant agreement, and the existing edition of E-568 indicates only very nominal differences in content.

Further, we found that many users appended their own user-drafted and -supplied architectural services scope to the E-568 Main Agreement (and other E-568 exhibits), with only minimal or no reference, to the model Exhibit A scope that is furnished with E-568.

Based on those user comments, it was felt by EJCDC participants and staff that any customization for an architectural services subconsultant agreement could be easily accomplished within the existing terms and model scope of the most recent edition of E-570, supplemented with user furnished detail on the specific architectural services to be provided.

Users desiring to create a subconsultant agreement between an Engineer prime and an Architect subconsultant, are therefore directed to EJCDC® E‑570, Agreement Between Engineer and Subconsultant for Professional Services, 2020 Editionwith the Architect serving in the role of the agreement “Subconsultant”.  E-570 is closely coordinated with EJCDC Owner-Engineer agreements and, with appropriate scope customization, assures compatibility with any subconsultant role, including that of an architect subconsultant.

The EJCDC® E-570 is currently available for purchase in the online store at EJCDC.orgMembers of EJCDC®’s sponsoring organizations (the American Council of Engineering Companies, the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the American Society of Civil Engineers – Construction Institute) can also purchase this document directly from those organizations starting today at a 50% discount.

Over the last 50 years, Engineers Joint Contract Documents Committee (EJCDC®) has developed and updated fair and objective standard documents specifically written for infrastructure projects in the United States. Each EJCDC® Contract Document is systematically prepared, reviewed and analyzed by committees of experienced engineering design and construction professionals, owners, contractors, professional liability and risk management experts, with the participation and advice of legal counsel.
